Faith and Fulfillment (Part 1)

Home»Blog»Faith and Fulfillment (Part 1)

August 2, 2022

“Who are you?”

It was the question that the religious leaders asked John the Baptist. His response, “I am not the Christ.”

What was it like for John? Before he was born, he was set apart for God. He grew up different from other children. His parents were old, really old, and he was not allowed to drink wine or other strong drinks.

This was enough to make him stand out in a crowd, but the thing that made him unique was that he was the fulfillment of a prophesy spoken over 700 years before in Isaiah 40:3. He was the voice crying, “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

He was born to herald the coming of the Messiah, to call God’s children to repentance in preparation. And then, one day it happened. John saw Jesus standing on the bank of the river and God revealed Jesus to be the Messiah, just as He promised He would.

John knew Jesus. He was his cousin. They must have grown up together, after all John had leapt for joy in his mother’s womb when Jesus’ mother, Mary, had come to visit. Jesus was familiar, he was family, yet John didn’t know that the fulfillment of his faith was right before him.

Are you clinging to faith? Are you believing God for a truth from His word that is not your reality? Hang on. God is faithful. God will reveal Himself at the perfect moment. His fulfillment might even be right in front of you and you just can’t see it yet. Do not forget, He is working, and His fulfillment is coming.
